If the citizens of one's country are able to understand and speak the English language, chances are it will create more job opportunities for its people. Just look how India was able to achieve the economic growth that they have right now.
Teaching English in Africa will not only open doors of opportunity for the Africans. It will create a better future for the next generation as well. Africans are known for their friendliness, and any foreign national who would be teaching English in Africa will surely experience warm welcome from its people.
Teaching English in Africa does not always require its teachers to have an ESL certification. Many of the schools no longer require the teachers, what is important for these schools is that someone who is able to have English as its native language will be able to teach in their school even if it's just for a semester.
If you are truly decided to teach English in Africa, it may be a volunteer or missionary work or you can actually find an organization, which is willing to pay for the services you will be rendering. A working permit is necessary if you plan to stay in their country for more than three months. If it is a volunteer work, the tourist visa alone will suffice.
You should be able to check on your place of work if they have the materials needed for teaching the English language. Because most of the schools do not have it, it is best that you bring your own materials if you plan teaching English in Africa.
As in any other teaching jobs, patience is important in this type of profession. Especially in this country wherein there is not much lucrative teaching jobs. However, their need for volunteer workers is high. Teaching English in Africa can be a start of a beautiful life for your students and their nation as a whole. English is very essential for their growth both for the individual studying the language and the nation, which will eventually benefit from the knowledge of its people. Teaching English in Africa can have a big impact on your students' lives and yours. It can also be a highlight for your teaching career because teaching in a country like Africa would reflect that you truly love your profession whether it pays good or not. Your goal does not only involve earning but also sharing an important part of you.
