Elementary Teaching Materials

Fun is an essential part of learning. Not just at the elementary school level but all the way to graduate schools. Elementary teaching materials have to appear attractive to the child and make them feel safe and in a warm environment. Elementary school children have not yet learnt how to read or express themselves effectively through other means. Color is very important at this age. Bright colors excite the child and dull ones well, are not even noticed.

Elementary school children are still strongly attached to their mommies, nannies and the comfort of being at home. The teachers have to ensure they create a small 'Disney world' to be able to convince these children that school can equally be a safe and fun place. Otherwise, the children will be too unsettled to learn anything.

From the school's entrance all the way to the classroom and homerooms, the teachers ensure that they have decorated the walls and hall ways to the child's satisfaction. Cartoon figures, big colorful letters and numbers are used to jog the child's memory. Alphabetic letters and numbers drawn artistically on the walls can help a child's memories and learn what they are taught in class.

Apart from using color, there are great teacher supplies in the market for teaching in elementary school. These supplies can be purchased via the internet. Materials like bean bags can be used by students in class instead of raising their hands when they want to answer a question to make the learning process more interesting. Charts can also be used as visual aid materials to help students retain memory. PowerPoint presentation, DVDs and videos can also be used to make the class more interesting. Stamps and stickers are also used to award excellent students and encourage them to work hard.

Teachers can also arrange for students to play out what they learn in class in the form of skits where they get to help in making the costumes. They can play games concerning the topics they have learnt and the winner or winning team gets to win a prize.

A good learning atmosphere goes a long way in improving the students' performance. The atmosphere of the class will either encourage or discourage the students to interact with one another. Some shy students need a little encouragement to open up. During games, competitions or other class activities, the students are able to learn each other's characters and know how to relate to each other and make friends.
