Dod Teaching Jobs
Many teachers believe it is hard to get teaching jobs in the military. The Department of Defense is in charge of giving dod teaching jobs to prospective military base teachers. The dod activity office helps teachers land jobs in different military bases. There are military bases in 13 states in the United States and all around the world.
Getting a teaching job in the military is just like finding a job in any public school. However, there is certain information you will need to have to land dod teaching jobs.
First, you will have to decide on the state you prefer to be posted to. Once you settle on one, you will need to familiarize yourself with the certification procedures for that particular state. The University of Kentucky's website has the certification requirements for all the 50 American states.
Then go to the DOD educational activity's website for your certification to be coordinated depending on the state you have picked. Here, you will be informed whether you need extra certification to teach overseas or not.
If your interest is teaching at a foreign military base, find out the benefits and disadvantages that come with this. One of the advantages is that all your expenses may be paid in full.
Taking regular or formal college education for military recruits is impossible. The time required for this kind of education cannot go hand in hand with military base programs. However, there are other alternatives for them to be able to earn college credits. They can enroll for CLEP (College level examination program). Military personnel can take the 34 CLEP examinations that can be studied for through internet resource material. This allows them to study at their own pace and time. Once they leave the military, the college credits open even more career opportunities for them. The military personnel have an advantage of taking the course for free through a military-paid program.
For teachers wanting to teach at military bases, you will need a couple of things to land the job. You will need your college degree and prove of over 18 credit hours of doing development work. A valid teaching certificate and a pass in the Department of Defense Educational Activity exam are also important requirements. The DoDEA exam can be applied for online.
You will require patience as this process has daunting paperwork and you may feel like giving up. The result will however be extremely rewarding.
