Fractions For Dummies
The For Dummies series has been around since 1991 where it started with DOS for Dummies. The series was written by Dan Gookin and published by IDG Books. The series today covers over 1,500 titles on a wide array of topics. The For Dummies series is really not for dummies, but for students or adults with very little understanding of a subject area. The original series covered computer related subjects and has now branched out to Math For Dummies, Fractions For Dummies and more. John Wiley & Sons is the new publisher of the series. There is also for dummies books with larger print and a series of More For Dummies. The beautiful of this series is that it provides a step-by-step tutorial on whatever subject it is covering.
The For Dummies series is now online and students and teachers alike can go to dummies.com to find the wonderful step-by-step video available called Fractions For Dummies. This video explains how to multiply and divide fractions in algebra, including when the denominators are different. It shows the student how to reduce to lowest terms; it shows how to divide fractions. Multiplying fractions with two or three mixed numbers is also explained in detail. Other basic steps like adding and subtraction fractions, how to find the common denominator, and how to change improper fractions to mixed numbers are also dealt with.
The Fractions for Dummies video is comprehensive it does take you back to the basics explaining how fractions are constructed, how proper fractions work, how to reduce fractions and what to do when fractions don't reduce.
