Scholarship in general is the system of funding a student in order to become a scholar, this scholarship is provided on one or many conditions. There are many kinds of scholarships available these days.

Distance learning

Distance learning is the method of learning when a student and the teacher or the institute are separated by a considerable distance, and yet the student is aided with the study materials through printed books, radio, television programs and the student is allowed to write exams and pursue the degree. These days many universities offer this system of distance education which helps the students of remote location a lot.

Types of Scholarships that is available

There are different types of scholarships available for students who enrol themselves in the program of distance learning. Scholarships are a great way to fund one's education; most of the institutions offer scholarships to students who are good in academics. Most of the institutions provide scholarships to meritorious students; this is the most common type of scholarship that is offered. Another kind of scholarship that is available is for the students who possess unique talents and capabilities other than academics. Some of the common criteria would be extracurricular activities such as boy scouts, musicians, athletes, cheerleaders. Students who possess these capabilities are awarded scholarships. Another type of scholarship which is not that famous is the scholarships offered based on contests. This type of scholarship is introduced by companies; they ask the students to participate in some kind of contest such as creative writing or drawing and so on.

The winner of the contest is awarded a scholarship for certain sum of money that can be used for the education of the individual. This type of scholarship is usually offered in order to publicize or advertise a brand of company; this scholarship is not common in all the countries.

Scholarship for distance learning

Universities that offer distance learning gives a scholarship for students based on their geographical location. A student from Kenya is given a scholarship in an Indian university; likewise there are many universities that offer scholarships for students based on their citizenship. Students from rural areas who have joined in the distance education program are given scholarships; apart from this students who possess good academic capabilities, students who belong to certain religion are also given scholarship. In some universities there are lots of ways for a student to get a scholarship.
