It takes observation, experimentation, and research for scientists to solve problems, add to our knowledge base, or make discoveries. Science is an important part of our everyday life and this area uses many mathematic formulas and equations for the development and research required.
Science is involved in a multitude of areas including health and medicine to develop drugs and find the reason for diseases, food and beverages to create new products, materials science to understand and create new and useful products, environment and earth to gain knowledge on how the earth’s climate and oceans work, statistics to analysis new and changing trends, education to teach and lecture upcoming scientists, mathematician, and statisticians.
As a rule, many scientists work in offices, laboratories, and lecture theatres, although some do work out in the natural environment (in the field). Some work in sterile conditions while others work with hazardous substances, and yet others work on developing policies and dealing with media relations through various programs and projects.
To be a scientist, no matter which area you wish to enter, required a degree from college or universities. Most colleges and universities have scholarship programs, and funding through loans, grants, and student aid to assist the student as they make their way through the years involved. Because these positions are well paying and sought after, the student will need to be at the top of their class when graduating. Scientists work in various locations including manufacturing, engineering, medical, schools, government, private and public companies, and with various types of research organizations and environmental agencies. Many multi-national companies employ thousands of scientists, while at smaller businesses there many only are one or two scientists involved. Most scientists continue to receive on the job training to keep their skills and knowledge base up to date, accurate, and their education expanding as the world around them changes rapidly. Science is a vast and expanding field.
To be a successful scientist, you need to be very methodical in your workings, as well as extremely accurate in your measures and documentation. You need to be self-disciplined and work with little or no supervision, or as part of a bigger team, who analysis data for problem solving purposes. As a scientist, you will need exceptional communication skills so that you can share your findings with co-workers, as well as clients. You also require a good understanding of safety regulations and health rules and regulations.
As a scientist climbs the ladder of success, they normally move in supervisory, administrative, management, or teaching positions. So, if you love math and calculation statistics, they is a great job for you.
