Accounting Career Jobs

Accounting career jobs are available in many places and upon completion of a college or university diploma or degree, unless you enter through an apprenticeship program with an accounting firm. Most colleges and universities have funding available to the student to complete their course in the form of scholarships, student aid, loans, and grants. Courses in accounting can be taken full-time, part-time, evenings, weekends, and through distant learning or online education over the internet. Accounting career jobs are mathematics intensive so the student needs to have excellent math skills, have great communication skills, be computer literate, be able to work on their own or as part of a team, and enjoy working to tight deadlines, depending on the job taken. Some accounting jobs are temporary or seasonal as well, especially during tax season.

Accounting jobs can be found in public accounting firms that provide accounting services to business, individuals, and government agencies. This field has advancement potential with the accountant being able to work towards becoming a tax manager, department head, supervisor, audit manager, or partner in the firm.

Government accountant's work with all levels of government to create budgets, track expenses and costs, and analyze programs. This type of work has high impact but occasionally runs into bureaucratic objections and obstructions, although there is also opportunity for advancement here as well, in the form of higher administration position. These accountants often work in the defence department, accounting offices, and in the taxation center. Some accountants work strictly for corporations big and small. These accountants prepare financial statements, handle tax issues, work on tracking costs, and handle internal transactions. This work is often exciting and can lead to positions of tax manager, cost accounting manager, payroll manager, audit manager and other supervisory positions. Most of these accountants advance through the ladder into senior management positions.

Self-employed accountant, also known as CPA - Chartered Public Accountants often start out working with accounting firms and than advance to open their own business. These accountants must line up their own clients, but once established these accountant have closer contact with the client and a high degree of independence. This accounting form is highly rewarding financially, but it can be risky until established.
