TRY TEN THINGS - MONTH 1
Welcome to Try Ten Things! And welcome to the new CJRLC BLOG!
At the beginning of each month I will post a “new thing” on this blog. It might be a website. It might be an online tool. It might be a resource. You have the whole month to try it out, play with it, see if you like it.
You might find you like it - or don’t like it - you might find a new or different or better use for it - you might find something similar that you want to share with us - you can use the comments section of the posts to share your thoughts and information with everyone.
My hope is that we will have an interesting and useful conversation here, and all learn something new!
I will do it starting now - for February - and for the next 9 months. I will send a reminder to the listserv when the new thing is posted at the beginning of each month (but hopefully you will be a regular reader of the blog anyway)!
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions.
Ready?
Let’s start!
MONTH 1 - February - NEW THING
Okay, I am sort of cheating here, but hey, it’s the first month and everyone might not be familiar with commenting on a blog. Let’s give it a go - the first new thing is THIS BLOG! Please leave a comment about the blog, this project or anything else! If you are an old pro at blogs, blogging and commenting on blogs, perhaps you could share some information on that - on the other blogging software - other ways of reading and interacting with blogs - how other blogs handle comments, etc…. Or, just introduce yourself here!
How do I comment on a post?
At the end of the post you will see text that looks like this
Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »
If there are no comments it will show NO COMMENTS. Once there have been comments, this will show the number of comments.
Click on NO COMMENTS.
This opens a form – you need to type in your Name and an e-mail address. The e-mail address will not be published.
There is also a space for a website. You can leave this blank or enter the URL of a website – this could be your personal website. Your blog. Your library website.
Next, fill in your comments.
Then, click on SUBMIT YOUR COMMENT.
What happens next?
You will end up back in that post and your comment will not appear yet.
A message will be sent to me that there is a comment on the blog.
If this is your first comment on the blog, it needs to be approved. After you have had one comment approved from your email address, further comments will automatically show up.
I will check the comment and approve it.
Please note – I am not checking and approving it for content, but to make sure it is not random spam.
Once you have entered your email once and had a comment approved, you’re set to comment as much as you like without awaiting approval – your comment will show up under that post as soon as you post them (pretty much).
Once a post has comments it will look like this
Filed under: Uncategorized | 1 Comment »
(or however many comments there are)
You can click on the comment link and read the comments made.
Try it!
There are some other things you can do, like subscribe to the feed – and I’ll post about that later this month.
If anyone wants to post about how to subscribe to the feed, please do! ?
Happy First New Thing! ![]()

Looking forward to a selection of new tools. I especially liked the detailed instructions you left about exactly how to comment. (Yeah, it’s intuitive to most of us, but keep offering the explanations — it saves us reinventing the wheel).
Great idea. I’m interested in seeing what next month brings. Sheila
