Our members can hear Mary Ellen Bates do two programs and have a nice

So here is the schedule for the whole day and you can do any or all of
it.

If It’$ $pring, It
Mu$t Be Di$count$!
Once again CJRLC is very heavily subsidizing
Wilson's Biography Plus
Illustrated (the full text articles and 26,000 images from 100 of their
publications!). Public, academic and high school libraries pay $400 per
site to a max of $2200 per system. K-8 schools pay $200. Send PO's to
CJRLC!
And for the fifth year, CJRLC will offer its members Accunet/AP Photo
Archive at no cost to you. Each year when the CJRLC Executive Board
approves the budget for the coming year, these decisions are examined.
In 2005 over 60,000 searches were made in Accunet/AP Photo. If you are
not using it, you’re wasting our money!
Most importantly, CJRLC, the other Regions, and the NJ State Library,
pay for the EBSCO suite of databases. In addition to all of these, the
four regions offer an extensive list of discounted databases on our
website. Negotiated for all of the regions by the INFOLINK Regional
Library Cooperative, these discounts can save your library thousands of $$$. Thank you, INFOLINK!

Puertas Abiertas!
Spanish Language Outreach Training
To help you open your library’s doors to Spanish-speaking customers,
attend one of 2 free all day workshops about building community
partnerships. Funded by NJ State Lib., The Gates Foundation, and IMLS.,
the first one is May 9th at Long Branch PL; the second at Ocean Co. Lib.-Jackson.
Both are from 9:30-4:00. See flyer on our website or call the office for
details.

Long Branch Public
Library Hosts a
Recruitment Open
House May 10
Do your students or other customers ask about becoming a librarian?
Of course you point them to our web page, but on May 10 they can get many
of their questions answered at an Open House from 7-8 PM. The Library is
located at 328 Broadway in Long Branch.
The program will feature brief presentations from librarians with a
variety of jobs. There will also be time for questions and answers.
One of the speakers will be Tonya Badillo who works at LBPL. Tonya is
a current student at Thomas Edison State College. Her tuition is being
paid for by the IMLS grant that NJ received in 2003. Tonya hopes that
our new grant application will be equally successful. She’s ready to
apply for the MLIS program at Rutgers!

Tonya is pictured here with Long Branch Director Ingrid

Giant Step Award to Middletown HS South
Cecelia Freda won this award, given by
School Library Journal and The
Gale Group, for the most improved library. The award comes with a $5000
grant and will be given at the annual ALA conference in New Orleans.
Look for Ceil’s interview in the May issue of SLJ. Congratulations,
Ceil!
Ceil was also on
NJN’s Classroom Closeup in April and has had an
article published in NEA Today. Way to go, Ceil!

Flowers and workshops are blossoming this month! We have three very
different classes for you.
Cataloging is that subject we love to hate, but organization of
knowledge is fundamental to what we do. Join us for our second
cataloging workshop with Irene Percelli -- Understanding Subject
Headings, on Thursday, May 4th at Monmouth Co. Lib. HQ-Manalapan.
The class runs from 9:30-3:30, includes lunch, and costs $30.00. Call
the office to register.
On May 11th, Karen Novick, from Rutgers SCILS, will present
Developing Successful Grant Proposals. Take the mystery (and fear!)
out of understanding what funders want and putting together a
successful proposal. The class is from 9:30-12:30 at Monmouth Co. Lib
HQ-Manalapan. Call CJRLC to register.
It’s sometimes hard to absorb and make use of all the new
developments in technology -- everything moves so fast. Spend a morning
catching up with our hands-on Blogging and RSS class, taught by Sophie
Brookover. You will be able to set up your own blog and RSS feeds in
this class. The date is Wednesday, May 17th, the place is the CJRLC
lab, and the time is 9:30-12:30. The cost is $20.00. Call the office
to register.
If you missed the two medical reference classes that we held in
March, the extensive class materials are available on the web, at:
http://nnlm.gov/train. Just do a keyword search on the class titles:
Prescription for Success and No Comprende?
Don’t forget about HouseCalls
-- I love to travel on these nice
spring days!
