It is not necessary to have completed Tech Challenge 1 to participate in this Challenge where you'll learn about some additional, more-advanced 2.0 technologies. You can learn on your own and by attending CJRLC sponsored workshops.

The Challenge

Complete all the items on the list below by December 19, 2007 (our Fall Membership meeting) and receive a prize!

Complete any portion of the program and you'll still be recognized at the meeting.

Who is eligible?

Anyone who works in a CJRLC member library. It is not necessary to have participated in last Spring's Tech Challenge, but a general familiarity with blogs, rss and some 2.0 is assumed.

How do I track my progress?

You will need to set up a blog -- that's how you'll record your progress, as last time.

Will there be any training classes?

Yes; CJRLC will schedule workshops to help you learn most of these technologies, but this is a self-learning program and you can use online materials which we will direct you to.

How do I get started?

Call (732-409-6484) or email Amy at CJRLC and let her know you want to get started. There's additional information on the CJRLC website.

The Challenge

1. Register with Blogger (http://www.blogger.com), another service, or WordPress (http://www.wordpress.com) and set up a blog, or use the blog you created before.

For help, see the presentation at  http://www.cjrlc.org/Links/blogging&rss_CJRLC.ppt.

Post about joining Tech Challenge 2 and post once a week (or more!) for at least a month.

2. Check out some photo-editing programs.

Picnik (http://www.picnik.com/) and Fauxto (http://www.fauxto.com/) are two good ones. Use one, or find your own, and edit some photos.

Link to your photos or embed them on your blog, & blog your experience. (Showing before and after photos might be cool!)

3. Discover podcasting.

A Podcasting 101 workshop was held Nov. 1 at Princeton Public Library. If you need help, contact Amy@cjrlc.org .

Create and post a podcast of your own, or link to it from your blog  - OR -  find some info on podcasting (http://podcasts.yahoo.com/start) and post about what libraries are doing with it, or your own ideas.

4. Learn about microblogging – There is a workshop on this, Nov. 28, at Princeton Public Library with Nicole Engard, 4:30-5:40pm. See flyer.

Check out Twitter (http://www.twitter.com) and Jaiku (http://www.jaiku.com) and blog.

5. Do at least one of the following and share it with someone else:

Select something from Web 2.0 Awards (http://www.seomoz.org/web2.0), explore & blog it.

Check out YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/) and find a video worth adding to your blog.

Mashups (http://www.flickr.com/services/) play with some and post on your blog.

Learn about wikis (http://meredith.wolfwater.com/cil06/) and blog about it.

6. Step into Social Networking  - There will be a workshop on this – Dec. 5th – CJRLC Lab, 5:30-6:30, with Nicole Engard. See flyer.
